On the brink of extinction
This whole wikileaks story is making every day more evident how desperately clueless Italian media dinosaurs really are.
I have read the major newspapers, listened to endless radio shows, saw the main TV newscasts, and the results are pretty clear: they have no idea whatsoever of what is really going on.
From the random usage of misunderstood technical terms (did you hear about the Pentagon’s “10Gbyte attack” to wikileaks?), to name calling (Julian Assange is a “pirate” when not a “terrorist”), to pure ignorance (the journalist saying that wikileaks is not providing transparency because “nobody can read 3 million files”, which is just like saying that the web is useless because nobody can read all web pages, as if nobody had invented countless search technologies).
And anyway, none of them is really looking at wikileaks’ actual files, they are all linking articles on the New York Times or El Pais.
They had more than 15 years to figure out the interwebs. They failed. Somebody in the future will find their bones and try to figure out what kind of diet they had, meanwhile we’d better figure out how to move forward without them.
